Botox® Cosmetic to Treat Facial Wrinkles
At Whitehall Health Clinic, our aesthetic specialist works beneath the skin’s surface to target the underlying muscle activity. Injecting fillers into the muscles that cause crow’s feet lines temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles. Our aesthetic specialist administers the treatment during a brief office visit.
We offer Botox to get rid of unsightly facial wrinkles for treating “dynamic” wrinkles in the upper face. These include the frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet.
The frown lines are created as the result of contraction of the corrugatoe and procerus muscles in the area between the eyes above the nose. This wrinkle is noticed mostly when squinting. The forehead creases are the result of contraction of the frontalis muscles and is noticed most by raising the eyebrows up and down. The crows feet (the area at the outside portion of the eyes) are caused by contracting the orbicularis oculi muscle and is commonly noticed most when smiling.
While Botox may be used in experienced hands in the lower portion of the face and neck, it is best to think of Botox as the primary treatment for use the facial lines and wrinkles in the upper part of the face.
How Does Botox® Work?
Botox takes only minutes to inject, and works for periods up to 3 and 4 months. It works by paralyzing the injected muscles of facial expression. By keeping these muscles still, the overlying skin does not wrinkle and the crease disappears. Botox is most commonly used in the low central forehead between the eyes, to help gently raise the eyebrows and reduce forehead creases. It is effective for several months before it needs to be repeated to maintain its benefits.
