How Chiropractors Are Represented In The Movies
If you’re anything like me, and chances are you just may be based on the box office totals every week, you love movies. When I’m not working or spending quality time with my family and friends, I enjoy a good movie. I’ve even been known to like some really incredibly bad movies, but that’s a topic for another time.
Plenty of characters in the movies are often doctors, lawyers, police officers, etc., but one thing you don’t see much are heroes that are Chiropractors. Why is that? Don’t get me wrong, there’s been a few here and there, and even more characters that shared my profession in television sit coms, but on the rare occasion I see an actor or actress portraying a Chiropractor, it’s usually for laughs.
Take a look at this example from Magnolia Pictures starring Jeff Daniels as the patient and Lauren Graham as a first time Chiropractor: The Answer Man.
Like I said, it’s played for laughs, but we do so much more than that! Granted, it’s Hollywood, and of course there needs to be suspension of disbelief, but sometimes they don’t get it anywhere near close!
This clip is even more extreme, featuring Seinfeld’s Michael Richards before he was Kramer. I guarantee you’ll never see any treatment like this in a licensed chiropractic office: The Chiropractor.
Hey, screenwriters, directors, movie producers! Why can’t we see a real portrayal of a Chiropractic in just one of your movies or television series? We help patients everyday in more ways than just spinal adjustments. We offer help with headaches, sciatica, whiplash, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, even Fibromyalgia. Many practices, including both locations of Whitehall Health Centre, are even able to help patients with weight loss. Just ask any of our satisfied clients, they will tell you that we never flipped them up in the air over a desk like that poor soul from the comedy sketch above.
If you’re curious what Chiropractic Services really have to offer, please call us at 412-885-2929 for your Free Consultation. I will be happy to separate the myth shown in the movies from the facts of how we can help you with your chronic pain and weight issues. Oh, and for the record, if you’re curious about the most realistic portrayal of a chiropractor ever in the movies, check out Danny Aiello in Jacob’s Ladder. It’s a pretty intense film, so I didn’t link to it here, but it’s readily available from Netflix and wherever you get your film fix! Now that was a good movie!
